Diamond Watches Need Love Too

February 10th, 2010 John Mann Comments off

Bling is the new catch phrase. Or as my daughters would put it, "it's not the new phrase, but newer...maybe." Diamond watches are definitely luxury items that can be worn out and about and definitely command attention. A functional diamond watch is even better and that's what we are shooting for.

While a regular maintenance schedule is preferred, there are some things you can do to keep your watch up and running like clockwork- Literally. Here are some tips to help you keep those luxury diamond watches up and ticking like they should be.

Routinely cleaning your diamonds is a good idea. Do not use any stringent liquids though. Warm water and a cotton swab or q-tip will do just fine. For a deeper clean take your watch to a watch maker for cleaning. They know their watches much better than "Suzie was a clerk last week" down at the local jewelry mart. She might do fine cleaning rings, but most rings do not have a complicated set of gears on the inside that could become damaged.

Check your facets periodically. Doing so might save you a lost diamond or two. You can do this by simply examining your watch closely with a common magnifying glass. Use a toothpick or something else that is small, ridged but not likely to scratch the surface. Keeping up with how many diamonds are on your watch is a good idea and will keep your investment safe, and avoid any embarrassment and couch cushion digging at the Christmas party.

Diamond watches are generally kept tucked away somewhere safe. If you do not wear yours often make an effort to remember to wind it periodically, especially if you do not wear it that often. The gears inside of the watch can become dry over time and stick. It is important that the oil in the watch be allowed to coat these gears and keep them nice and slick.

If you have a watch that is part diamond and part crystal, make sure the crystals are not at all compromised. A cracked crystal can let in moisture which will also damage the gears. Damaged gears mean you will most likely miss the opera or at least be late. No one wants that kind of attention.

Make sure you make time to have your watch examined by a professional. This is a good idea with any watch, but with diamond watches especially. A watch maker has all those cool lenses in there shop that you do not and they know how facets and mechanisms work. Visiting your local watch smith will ensure that your ticker keeps ticking and that your shiny parts keep shining... on the watch.

Diamond watches are great for everyone. People talk about who has what watch at parties when they see a piece that is extravagant and oh so shiny. It's true because I myself usually start these conversations. The thing is making sure your watch will continue to shine and keep accurate time is a must. No one really spends that much money on a watch that only works for a year; it's an investment and a luxury. Following these steps will make sure it is a long-term investment.
